How to allow or whitelist a URL in Mimecast.

While robust email security measures are essential for protecting against cyber threats, they can sometimes be overly cautious, leading to false positives where legitimate URLs are mistakenly blocked. This can impede workflow and communication within an organization. Managed URLs provide a solution to this problem by giving administrators granular control over what URLs are deemed safe, thereby reducing the risk of unnecessary disruptions.

The functionality of Managed URLs is straightforward yet highly effective. Administrators can create entries within the Mimecast console to designate URLs or domains that they trust implicitly. By doing so, Mimecast recognizes these entries as safe and ensures that emails containing links to these whitelisted URLs or domains are not blocked or flagged as suspicious.

How to access:

  1. In the administrator console go to Services

  2. Go to URL Protection

  3. Go to URL Tools

  4. From here add a managed URL and create it to your liking. Blocking URLs or Permitting URLs can be done via domain or explicit match. Be aware to format the URL with http:// or https:// as it will not take a domain without.

Be cautious of creating managed URLs. With too much liberality permitting URLs you may unintentionally create a security vulnerability. If you would like to learn more about securing your organization with managed URLs let us know.
