Mimecast or Proofpoint?
In our opinion Mimecast and Proofpoint are equal in terms of the security that they can offer. However, Proofpoint being the larger company, is targeted more by hackers such as the recent EchoSpoof attack which successfully targeted millions of large customer company email contacts.
The platforms work very similarly but use different methodologies to create and manage policy which can sometimes be confusing for someone changing from one platform to another. Customers will have differing experience with each company based on the human engineering resources they may or may not receive or have in-house.
For either of these platforms to perform security to expectation and not disrupt business with false positives, you need someone who knows what they are doing in the platform. Without the knowledge of someone intimate with the platform, it’s capabilities, shortcomings, and how to configure/manage them, you will not be able to benefit fully from the products you have purchased.
What we commonly see in the market is organizations who purchase one of these products, don’t have access to the support and knowledge needed to optimize and configure it, and finally after a few years of struggling make a switch to the competitor product only to experience the same issues. Occasionally, with either company you can get lucky and receive help from a kind soul who can temporarily make things work nicely. Neither organization has the correct program in place to assure you of success with their product. Also, with both platforms they will continue to sell you more products to help solve your problems, most of which could be solved with what you already have.
If you are considering switching from one of these platforms to the other, STOP and consider the above. You will save time, money, and reputation by simply meeting with us to discuss your current situation and the options available.
